Are you in the market for a new insulated garage door? Contact Overhead Door Co. of Indianapolis & Muncie if you’re interested in a triple layer, or sandwich, door for your home or commercial building in the central Indiana area. Keep reading to learn more about these types of doors!
Doors with Sandwich Construction
A triple layer garage door is an insulated model—it can also be referred to as a three layer, or sandwich, door.
The insulation is hidden, or sandwiched, between the inner and outer metal pans. The two layers that sandwich the insulation are typically steel but can also be wood or fiberglass. Thickness of insulating cores for sandwich garage doors varies. It can range from more than 1 ½ to 3 inches thick.
Triple layer doors offer several benefits. They:
- Are extremely energy efficient
- Help increase structural integrity
- Help improve soundproofing
- Allow for a more attractive door interior (ideal if you use the garage for more than parking cars)
- Can operate more quietly
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyurethane are the two most common types of insulation used for garage doors. Overhead Door insulated garage doors have both. Our garage doors with sandwich construction are reliable and will perform reliably and thermally efficiently for many years.
